  • On March 27 our chapter members assisted Arizona Game and Fish Department with 250 5th graders in teaching them how to fish at Payson Green Valley Lakes, where Game and Fish had stocked heavily with large trout for the kids to catch. It was great watching the smile on the kids faces when they caught 18-22 inch trout.

  • On April 6 and 7 our members will be assiting Game and Fish with stocking on the East Verde River and Tonto Creek, by carrying buckets of fish to remote holes on those streams, so that the fish have a chance of turning wild.

  • On May 9, our members will have a booth set up at the annual Game and Fish wildlife fair at Green Valley Lakes in Payson, for interaction with the public there.

  • On June 13, our members will be doing a clean up of trash along the East Verde River, along with other volenteers, in conjunction with the USFS.

  • On May 23 and 24, our chapter will be camping with game and fish department at the campground on the young road above Canyon creek along with members of the Zane Grey chapter of trout unlimited from Phoenix, and helping game and fish on their Trout Watch day there to help educate the public on specific relulations on streams in the area (particulary canyon creek which is a catch and release area). This is part of game and fish department game thief program. Anyone wanting to come and camp there, come early as the campgrounds is small. Officers from game and fish with be camped there both days. and possibly a barbeque on Saturday night.

  • Last week we had a meeting with the local Boy Scout leaders, re setting up an anual TROUT CAMP day with them where we could all camp together on a local stream and then instruct the boys on how to fly fish and then take them to the stream and to catch a fish. I will be working with game and fish to see if we can get the stream stocked a few days prior so the boys have a chance to catch a decent sized fish. More on this later when we set a date for it.
